This workshop best fits the experience level and category of: Basic / Intermediate
Volunteers get hooked to your organization the first time on the mission. Is your mission to fight drunk driving, or help girls become leaders? What is the make-up of the majority of your first-time volunteers and why do they come to you? Once they make the commitment for that first volunteer term, whether it’s one day or a year, what can you do to make sure that experience, and each time after that feels so good they don’t even think about leaving? Beyond the incentive gifts, how can you make their experience so easy and so meaningful, they ask what else can I do for you.

Patricia A. Sherwood
Adult Development Director, Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas
Patricia A. Sherwood began her journey with Girl Scouts as a Brownie Girl Scout. The journey took her on many camping and other trips and created memories that will always remain with her. Most importantly, it was the beginning of a leadership journey that brought her full circle. After a 25-year career in corporate America in the computer science field, she changed the whole direction of her life and went to work for the organization she had continued to be a part of as an adult member and volunteer for 15+ years, when she joined the staff. After completing her Masters of Technology in Adult Education, she went to work for the Girl Scouts recruiting, training and supporting volunteers at many different levels. Her personal vision is to create a volunteer environment at Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas that is the opportunity of choice for volunteers.
