Volunteer managers are often thought to have super-human strength and stamina. Even the best of us can become burned out and disillusioned. While using the framework of servant leadership, participants will learn how to step back and empower volunteers to take on leadership positions in your organization.

- Understand the importance and advantages of utilizing volunteer team leaders in managing programs and building capacity;
- Identify the responsibilities and limitations of volunteer team leaders; and
- Hear how team leaders have successfully been utilized by similar organizations.

Tammy Holland holds a masters degree in public affairs from the University of Texas’ LBJ School of Public Affairs, and an undergraduate degree in social work. She has more than thirteen years experience as a senior-level manager in the Texas Youth Commission administering a statewide community involvement program. Tammy is responsible for writing and implementing the state agency’s policies and procedures incorporating community volunteers into the rehabilitation program of youthful offenders. She also provides executive consultation and leadership to 19 nonprofit organizations that partner with the state government agency. She has been a featured speaker and workshop leader at conferences such as the National Conference on Volunteering and Community Service, National Youth Service Institute, Texas Volunteer Management Conference, and Texas Governor’s Non-Profit Leadership Conference. She is a published author in Volunteer Management Review, Nonprofit Boards and Governance Review, and We Review, and a contributing author in the new book You and Your Nonprofit: Practical Advice and Tips from the CharityChannel Professional Community.
